Does my child have a disability?

For many parents, especially those who have just one child, it can be hard to tell if your child has a problem. Your child may seem normal in most areas, but something doesn't seem quite right. Though children develop at different rates, there are common milestones children should achieve by the time they reach a certain age. If your child fails to meet one or more of these checkpoints, it may be an indication that your child has a developmental delay. Also, there are several warning signs you can watch for that could be an indication your child has a developmental delay.

If you suspect your child has a delay, The Resource Center can help. We can conduct a screening to assess your child's development. If a developmental delay is indicated, you have several options. First, you should discuss the matter with your child's physician. If your child requires professional help, The Resource Center can provide a variety of therapies and clinical services to assist your child. We also can refer you to other providers offering additional needed services.

While parents naturally will be concerned if their child has a disability or a developmental delay, remember that you are not alone - The Resource Center is here to help. And keep in mind that the earlier a problem can be identified and addressed, you'll be giving your child a better chance of living a full, productive life.
